Terms of Service
Last updated: December 2024
Welcome to Nautilus Woodcraft. These Terms of Service govern your engagement with our custom furniture design and fabrication services. By commissioning work from us, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully, as they outline important information about ordering, payment, delivery, warranties, and your rights and responsibilities as a client.
Orders & Agreements
Custom Orders
All furniture produced by Nautilus Woodcraft is custom-made to your specifications. Each project begins with a signed proposal or work order that outlines the design, materials, dimensions, finishes, and pricing. This document constitutes a binding agreement once signed by both parties.
Design Approval
Before fabrication begins, we provide detailed shop drawings for your review and approval. Any changes requested after shop drawing approval may result in additional charges and timeline adjustments. Your signature on shop drawings confirms that all specifications are correct.
Material Selection
Wood is a natural material with inherent variations in grain, color, and texture. While we select the finest materials and can provide samples, the final piece may vary slightly from samples due to the natural characteristics of wood. These variations are not considered defects.
Pricing & Payment
Deposits
A deposit of 50% of the total project cost is required to begin fabrication. This deposit is non-refundable once materials have been ordered or work has commenced. The remaining balance is due upon completion, prior to delivery.
Payment Terms
We accept payment by check, bank transfer, or credit card. For qualifying trade clients (interior designers, architects), net payment terms may be available upon credit approval. Late payments may be subject to a 1.5% monthly finance charge.
Price Changes
Quoted prices are valid for 30 days from the date of the proposal. After this period, prices may be subject to change based on material costs. Once a deposit is received, the quoted price is locked for that project.
Production & Timeline
Lead Times
Production timelines are estimated based on current workload and project complexity. Typical lead times range from 8-16 weeks from deposit and shop drawing approval. We will provide a specific timeline for your project in the proposal.
Delays
While we make every effort to meet quoted timelines, delays may occur due to material availability, custom hardware procurement, or unforeseen circumstances. We will communicate promptly about any timeline changes. Delays do not constitute grounds for order cancellation without penalty.
Progress Updates
For projects exceeding 4 weeks in production, we provide weekly photo updates showing fabrication progress. You may also schedule a workshop visit to see your piece during production.
Delivery & Installation
Delivery
Delivery within the Greenville/Upstate South Carolina region is included in our pricing for most projects. Delivery beyond this area may incur additional charges. We will coordinate delivery timing with you to ensure someone is available to receive the piece.
Professional Installation
Installation services are included for built-in pieces and larger furniture items. Our team will protect your space during installation and ensure proper placement. Minor on-site adjustments (scribe fitting, leveling) are included.
Site Requirements
You are responsible for ensuring adequate access to the installation location, including doorway clearances, elevator availability, and parking for our delivery vehicle. Please inform us of any access challenges in advance.
Inspection
Please inspect your furniture upon delivery. Any visible damage or defects must be noted on the delivery receipt and reported within 48 hours. Once you sign off on delivery, the piece is considered accepted.
Warranty & Care
Craftsmanship Warranty
We warrant our furniture against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of delivery. This warranty covers structural integrity, joint failure, and finish defects under normal use conditions.
Exclusions
This warranty does not cover damage resulting from misuse, abuse, accidents, unauthorized modifications, improper care, exposure to extreme conditions, or normal wear and tear. Natural wood movement (minor expansion, contraction, or checking) is not considered a defect.
Care Instructions
Proper care extends the life of your furniture. We provide detailed care instructions with each piece. Generally, avoid direct sunlight, maintain consistent humidity levels (35-55%), clean with a soft dry cloth, and use coasters under beverages.
Repairs
Should warranty service be required, please contact us to arrange inspection. We will repair or replace defective components at no charge. Non-warranty repairs and refinishing services are available at reasonable rates.
Cancellations & Returns
Cancellation Policy
Orders may be cancelled within 5 business days of deposit payment, provided materials have not been ordered. After this period, or once materials are ordered, the deposit is non-refundable. Cancellations after production begins will be charged for all work completed and materials purchased.
No Returns
Because all pieces are custom-made to your specifications, we cannot accept returns on completed furniture. Please review all shop drawings and specifications carefully before approval.
Intellectual Property
Design Rights
Original designs created by Nautilus Woodcraft remain our intellectual property. You receive the right to use and enjoy your commissioned piece but may not reproduce the design commercially. Designs provided by you or your designer remain your property.
Photography
We reserve the right to photograph completed pieces for our portfolio, website, and marketing materials unless you request otherwise in writing prior to production. We will not identify your home or use your name without permission.
Limitation of Liability
Liability Cap
Our liability for any claim arising from our services shall not exceed the amount paid for the specific piece or service in question. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures in performance resulting from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, supplier failures, transportation disruptions, or government actions.
Dispute Resolution
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Oconee County, South Carolina.
Resolution Process
We are committed to resolving any concerns promptly and fairly. Please contact us directly to discuss any issues. Most matters can be resolved through open communication. If formal dispute resolution is necessary, both parties agree to attempt mediation before pursuing litigation.
